So today is a perfect example of why so many changes are taking place at the Purple Pincushion.
Today started out fantastic! Made it to the gym and home before Mr. and Little Miss woke up. They both woke up in great moods and ready to take on the day. Little Miss and I had an appointment free day. She didn’t have any therapy scheduled and I didn’t have any shop appointments scheduled. I was looking forward to getting work done without interruption with the bonus of being able to lavish my attention on my girl when ever she wanted it.
But there is really no such thing as a “free day” when you have a child with special needs. Shortly after breakfast Little Miss had a scary episode that sent us on the 1 hour+ journey to the children’s hospital where her neurologist is located. Everything ended up being o.k. and Little Miss just needed a medication adjustment, but half a day is now gone with the wind for all three of us, plus we are now completely exhausted.
For the past 10 years I have focused on making myself the best bridal alteration specialist I could be. I loved my work and I love my customers and I still do. But I love my daughter a whole lot more. I can no longer make the kind of promises to my customers that I used to be able to make. Even with cutting back on the amount of work I take in (this season I have only taken in a 1/4 of my usual work load) I cannot promise to have your work done by a certain day because my days are no longer my own. And weddings are all about THE DAY.
This will be my last season of bridal alterations for the Purple Pincushion. I may still do a small amount of bridal work by very special request, but bridal work will no longer be my focus or priority. The Purple Pincushion will not close or cease to exist, but it will be changing dramatically. Vicky (Hem it Up) continues to work several days a week in the shop taking general alterations like pants hems and zipper repairs. She does NOT do bridal work, so don’t ask her! It would be like asking an OB doctor to do your eye exam. Yeah, they are both doctors, but they do completely different things and have completely different skills!
I am no longer in the shop regular hours. If you want to see me you will need to make an appointment. Vicky’s hours fluctuate every week depending on the needs of her family so it is always a good idea to call ahead of time to confirm her hours as well. The phone number for both of us is the same as always: 920-387-2877. Leave a message if we aren’t in.
As for what I am going to be doing now that I am leaving the bridal work behind? You will just have to keep an eye out for updates in the coming weeks. Sweet Ginger Vintage by the Purple Pincushion is in progress!
